Description
The 305th Air Mobility Wing (305 AMW) is a United States Air Force strategic airlift and air refueling wing under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC). The 305 AMW is a tenant unit at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in central New Jersey. The 305 AMW extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying C-17 Globemaster III. The 305 AMW controls one of the Air Force's busiest aerial ports, and the air operations at both McGuire Air Force Base and Naval Support Activity Lakehurst. The 514 AMW is an associate Air Force Reserve wing located at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J. The wing flies aircraft assigned to the active-duty 305 AMW, also based at McGuire. The 514 AMW shares the responsibility of maintaining and flying the C-17 Globemaster III. The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a military transport aircraft that carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. The C-17 is projected to be in service for several decades.
