Description
Republic F-105G, Thunderchief, Wild Weasel, AF Serial No. 63-8320 of the 561st Tactical Fighter Squadron, 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, George Air Force Base, California. This F-105G was flown by Captain Bill Dobbs (Pilot) and Captain Chuck Wieneke [Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO)] during the Twelve Days of Christmas 1972 for the assault and bombing on Hanoi and Haiphong. Flying cover and suppression for the B-52s, Captain Dobbs and Captain Wieneke earned the Silver Star for their efforts to suppress enemy surface-to-air missiles. Lt Col Wieneke, flew as the EWO in 63-8320 during three tours of duty--Tahkli RTAFB, Korat RTAFB, and George AFB. Lt Col Wieneke flew in 63-8320 as the Director of Operations for the 561st Tactical Fighter Squadron. This aircraft scored 3 MiG kills in Vietnam with the 388th TFW, Korat RTAFB and is currently on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Lt Col Wieneke retired from the U.S. Air Force with 26 years of service.
