Description
The Mississippi CAP operates the Cessna 182 Skylane, a four-seat, single engine, high wing, fixed-wing aircraft made by the Cessna Aircraft Company. Introduced in 1956, the 182 has been produced in a number of variants, including a version with retractable landing gear, and is the second most popular Cessna model, after the 172. By mid-2013 Cessna planned to introduce the next model of the 182T. The normally aspirated, avgas fueled 182 went out of production in 2012, but came back in 2015. Nationwide, the CAP operates a fleet of over 550 aircraft including the Cessna 182, 206, and the Gippsland GA-8. The Mississippi Civil Air Patrol Pine Belt Composite Squadronperforms the three primary missions of the CAP: providing emergency services; offering cadet programs for youth; and providing aerospace education for both CAP members and the general public. Mississippi is home to one of the original Squadrons that were started a few days after the beginning of World War II.
