Description
The CV-22 Osprey is one of the newest aircraft in the Air Force Special Operation Commands (AFSOC) inventory and represents a revolutionary method of employing airpower. The CV-22 is a heavily modified Bell-Boeing tiltrotor aircraft, designed to meet the demands of the AFSOC mission. It combines the Vertical TakeOff and Landing (VTOL) capabilities of a helicopter with the speed, range, and service ceiling of a turboprop airplane. The 352 SOG, based at RAF Mildenhall, England, is an essential part of the Air Force Special Operations Command. Under the operational control of Special Operations Command Europe, the 352 SOG plans and performs specialized operations using advanced aircraft, tactics and air refueling techniques to transport and resupply military forces. The 7 SOS operates the CV-22, executing night, adverse weather, long-range troop transport and resupply operations into potentially hazardous areas. The primary mission of the 7 SOS is to conduct clandestine infiltration, exfiltration, and resupply of special operations forces over a wide range of environmental conditions. The aircraft can perform a variety of other missions including shipboard operations, non-combatant evacuation operations, and personnel recovery, operating in the deep battle space in a medium to high threat environment. The squadron's mission is ever expanding and it is ready, willing and able to perform wherever tasked anywhere, anytime.
